Beach Umbrella Sand Anchor
The SAND ANCHOR is screwed into sand and prevents umbrellas from being blown away. The "Sand Anchor" is a high density polystyrene plastic product consisting of a U.V. treated auger. Protect Kids From Sunburn
Is your portable beach umbrella packed and in the car? How about the sunscreen and wide-brimmed hats? If not, it is time to review the packing list for your summer beach vacation. Afterall, nothing can ruin a family beach vacation faster than raging sunburns.
Aside from making you miserably uncomfortable, sunburn can also cause premature aging and melanoma, the most common form of cancer in the United States. Fortunately, you can avoid the misery and long-term effects of sunburn by following these simple tips and including a few must-have items in your beach bag.
* Check with the local weather station to determine the day's UV index, which is determined by the time of year, latitude, longitude and amount of local cloud cover. The higher the UV index, the greater the amount of harmful UV radiation that is reaching the ground. If the UV index is high, you might want to skip the beach and head to the movies.
* If you do opt for the beach, remember that the sun is most intense between the hours of 10 A.M. to 4 P.M, so it is best to plan a late afernoon trip to the beach and avoid the most intense sun exposure.
* Slather your kids with a sunblock with an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 45. Apply the sunblock at least 15 minutes before going outdoors, and reapply it after the kids come out of the water. Remember to apply sunblock to the ears, nose, and neck. And don't forget yourself! Moms need sunblock, too.
* Pack broad-rimmed hats for every member of the family. The top of the head receives more direct sun exposure than any other part of the body.
* Remember that sunglasses are not just a fashion accessory. Kids need to protect their eyes from UV rays, too, so make sure they each have their own pair of sunglasses.
* If you are planning to spend several hours at the beach, your kids will enjoy a break from the pounding sun. Pack a large portable beach umbrella that allows your kids to rest and nap in comfort.
The America Camping Association estimates that children receive approximately 80 percent of their lifetime sun exposure before the age of eighteen, making it critical to protect them from the sun as much as possible. So the next time your family heads to the beach, slather on the sunscreen and throw a portable beach umbrella in the car -- you'll be giving your children the best possible gift -- a memorable childhood and a healthy adult life.
